WORKING STUDENTS
During the summer months,
Kathleen occasionally invites a young horseman who has shown extraordinary
dedication to their horsemanship to join her for a couple months. Kathleen
and the student ride, show and work horses together, learning from each
other and from the horses. Washington State resident Hannah will join
Kathleen for the summer of 2008. Hannah writes:
My name is Hannah. I
am 14 years old and attend a Jr. High School in Washington. I have been
riding horses since the age of three and am on my third horse. Her name is
Autumn Fire, she is a Paint/Arab. We do things like trail riding, gaming,
jumping, and showing. Autumn and I are in 4-H, this is our 5th
year. I also am on our school's Dance Team and soon will be going to a
studio for dance. Not only do I ride my horse I also ride my mother's
horse. I have been working with him with jumping, ground work, softness,
and mainly trying to establish a good relationship with him built around
trust. I ride with Kathleen every chance I get and have ridden with Mark
Rashid in Othello, Washington and at a week long in Loveland, Colorado.
After working with Mark and Kathleen Autumn and my relationship has grown
and grown. I also have learned a ton and have learned to understand the
horse from his perspective.
