A friend of mine (and fellow serial horse-shopper) found Cali on the internet in the spring of 2010. My friend contacted me and I arranged to see Cali as I passed through central California on my spring 2010 clinic trip. We vetted her in the vet’s parking lot and hopped her in the trailer! Cali was foaled in California and spent most of her life working on a ranch outside of Bakersfield. She is a big mare, and the story that came with her states that she’d worked on the ranch all her life gathering cattle and doctoring bulls, and she’d only been sold off due to her age. Cali is a massive mare, with huge bone and bulk. She is quiet-minded and truly a working horse, in that she takes any work seriously and if she’s not working, she’s resting. It’s not uncommon for her to come to my aid with organizing loose horses when she’s in the field. She is a wise soul, is very stoic and tends to add stability to her environment. She is sweet and friendly and seems to enjoy her clinic job. She is truly a grand dame – mature and classy professional woman.
